Path of exile was really too hard, developers clear mistakes

In a 3.5-hour podcast, the chief developer of PATH OF EXILE , Chris Wilson, the questions of the applied community. The last patch 3.15 had scattered a lot of displeasure among the players, as he clearly lifted the degree of difficulty of the game. We summarize Meinmmo.

Why the podcast? With the last big update, the league expedition started and the turned the degree of difficulty of the game. Some builds lost up to 40% of damage. But apparently not all changes were so planned and many of them did not get away with the community.

Apparently, Path of Exile lost about 30% of its revenue after expedition, as Chris tells in the podcast and most of them due to changes in this update. So far, developer Grinding Gear Games held back and has given little answers to the fans. In this podcast Chris wants to ask all the questions of the community.

What is that podcast? The podcast is the 75th edition of the "Baeclast", a podcast of the Youtuber and community member TARKE CAT is led. The Twitch Streamer and PoE experts Octavian, RAIZQT, Nugiyen and Ziggyd joined the podcast and talked about the state of the game with chief developer Chris Wilson.

In this video you can see the full 3.5 hours:

"We do not like the changes yourself"

What says Chris Wilson? In addition to the topics Path of Exile 2 and the long-term future of Path of Exile is a possible hardcore mode in conversation. However, the big topic are the changes of expedition (also called patch 3.15), which were good and what were bad.

Among other things, Chris speaks that they wanted to pack all Nerfs into a patch, and they were negligently negligent during planning, and more Nerfs took as they should have done. He is very satisfied with other changes. Especially apologizes for the incorrect communication between community and developers.

It is difficult. If I look at the live stream that we made to expedition, I'm full of all statements. They are all right. But they were not so recorded as we thought. It would be easy to say that you just misunderstood that, but the mistake was with us. We have expressed us wrong, and we are sorry.

He talks about tackling some of the changes with the next updates 3.16 and 3.17 and partially back. A very important topic is therefore the changes to the mana and the Flasks, so soaks that provide a short-term bonus and then have to be replenished by kills. In addition, Wilson criticizes the speed of Path of Exile.

We talked about in a conference [the new Flask system] and I have to admit, we just failed. The changes do not cause what we wanted, they do not work simply and we do not like them. [...] If our game is now running to 1500% [speed] we want to achieve about 800%. We want her really fighting. Current builds kill enemies that you can not even see on the screen. That's not fun.

What the professionals say? Especially on this statement he harvesthraft harsh criticism of the professionals in the round. The Streamer Nugiyen accuses GGG to tell one thing, but to do another and especially on tank builds and people who want to play explicitly slowly.

You want to make the game slower, I can understand that, but at the moment you do not do anything. Your changes to the Flasks even cause the opposite. If I kill faster monsters, I can use faster Flasks and kill even faster monsters. You do not slower the game, if your strong speed builds attenuated, you have to give slow builds a chance to exist. Many fans want to play slower, they want to take time, but the current meta does not allow the simply. You have to be fundamentally revised how Flasks recharge, not just how to activate yourself.

In this video you see the trailer for the last update:

Developer promises: "No further slowdowns"

How does it continue? Already in the next update 3.16, extensive changes to the FLASK system are to come again. You should be easier to get the Flasks you need. In addition, pro-active and re-active Flasks will be treated differently in the future of modifications differently to support more game styles.

Other changes also wants to look closer to the team of GGG and reinforce a lot. Chris Wilson promises that there will be no more slowdowns for any mechanics for any further slowdowns.

We wanted to make a big patch, which changes everything, so that players do not have to resolve four times in a row. We have weakened everything we wanted. Absolutely everything. There will be no Nerfs in the near future, neither in patch 3.16 nor in patch 3.17. Everything that comes now is getting stronger.

What about the masochist mode? Chris also talks about an extremely hard mode that may find his way into the game. The idea came to the team with the changes of 3.15. If this mode is actually in Path of Exile, he should be completely voluntary and get really extremely difficult. Chris Wilson explains that as follows:

It should be a mode where you are really looking forward to a blue item. Where to get into the city with 3 orbs, and not with 50. Equipment should gain enormous importance here and values can not be easily changed. Here you have to cope with what you find and should look forward to every item. Even for experienced players Act 1 becomes a challenge. Act 3 is heavily heavily, and I did not make it to the maps.

But it is not sure if this mode is actually creating in play. Chris holds it for an improvement for everyone. The streamer in turn fear a cleavage of the community, even if you would like to play it yourself.
